7th May 2008 Sandy's Open Mic

Sandy started off with a few songs including a Frankie Miller song 'Drunken nights in the city'.
Bob Leslie was first up singing a couple of his own songs 'No strings and no regrets' - about a brief liaison with an australian girl back in his youth and then 'the tune that was broken won't mend'.
Andy Logan was next, despite a painful wrist, with 'The always popular 'The games people play' followed by 'Time slips away'.
Amy Belle had joined us this evening and got up to sin 'Parallel' and then 'I love you' both beautiful songs
Ronnie then took to the stage and sang 'End of an Era' followed by 'She's halfway there'.
Elspeth Durkin was next to perform with Bob on guitar singing 'Summertime' - a tribute to the great weather we have been having recently, followed by 'After the Goldrush'.
Sammy then got to the stage and sang a couple of his own songs, but I didn't catch the titles [sorry],
and he was followed by Gavin Watt singing a Neil Young song 'The old laughing lady' and thena John Fogarty song 'Have you ever seen the rain?'
Jer McDade then took to the stage and livened the proceedings up with a couple of his own compositions 'Rosemary Fair' and 'Mrs Moonshine'.
Joe MacAtamany then sang 'I never found my Eldorado' followed by 'The Broom of the Cowdenknowes'.
Duncan Adams had arrived by this time [late as usual] and got up to sig 'Great wide open' and then 'Dance the night away' with some accompaniment from Michael on the trumpet.
Veronica then got up, with Sandy on guitar, to sing If you ever change your mind' and was also joined by Michael on trumpet and also Carl on bass guitar. She then continued with the Eric Clapton song 'You look wonderful tonight'.
Carl and Michael then stayed on stage [ as Destino] and played three songs 'Put spirit in your all', I'm Gone' and a song written for the Clutha Open Mics [both Bob and Sandy's] called 'A wee movement' - about the music and friendship and fun of the Clutha Open Mics.

Kevin Young then got to the stage and first of all did a Lowell George song 'Willin' (with some impromptu backing vocals from Bob and Elspeth) followed by a David Bowie song 'The Beauly Brothers'.
Ian Adie then took the stage and sang 'Out on the weekend' followed by 'Aurora Borealis' to finish off the evening.
As usual another excellent night of music in a small corner of Glasgow in Scotland!

Wednesday 13th February 2008

Sandy was having a slight problem with his guitar lead this evening so Bob Leslie started the evening off on his guitar with a couple of his own compositions ‘Cordelia Jane’ and ‘Just another stormy Monday’.

He was followed by Andy Logan singing in his own inimitable style ‘St James Infirmary Blues’ and then ‘Two timing Man’.

Sandy had his guitar fixed by then and sang ‘The Ballad of Pancho and Lefty’.

Next up was Derek Hart who sang a couple of tunes including ‘Sweet Yesterday’.
Elspeth Durkin was next singing ‘Jolene’ and then Bob’s favourite ‘Autumn Leaves’
.
Sandy got back up then and sang ‘If I needed you’ and he was followed on stage by Gavin Watt singing ‘As long as I can see the light’ and ‘My Baby wrote me a letter’ - I suppose if that had been written nowadays it would be My baby sent me a text! Doesn’t have the same meaning somehow.

Andy Logan got back up on stage then and performed ‘Time slips away’ followed by ‘Games people play’.

Sandy got Bob up next and he asked Elspeth to do some backing vocals on ‘Dixie Chicken ‘ and then ‘Gloria’, both of which were well received by the audience.

Gavin was back up then singing ‘Here comes your man’ and then ‘You don’t dance the techno’.

Sandy then sang the popular Beatles song ‘Strawberry Fields’.
Joe MacAtamany [the ‘Grandfather of the Open Mics] came up next and sang ‘The Happy People’ followed by the ballad ‘Jock Stewart’.

Duncan Adams was the penultimate performer, having arrived late, and he did ‘Put another log on the fire’ and then the ever popular ‘Where am I gonna live..?’.
Final performer of the evening [also a latecomer] was Amy Bell who gave a couple of lovely songs including ‘Me and Bobby McGee’.

Sandy finished the Open mic session on time, and a short jam session continued at the tables, with everybody gathering around and joining in with the singing.
Happy Valentine’s Day everybody!

Hogmanay at Glasgow's Clutha Vaults/Scotch Corner

31st December 2007
The evenings festivities at the Clutha started with Bob Leslie
running an Open Mic night from 5.30 until 9.30 pm, Bob did a sterling job keeping the people entertained as they arrived and settled in for the evening.
This meant that Bob was on stage for nearly three hours with only a couple of very short breaks.
He sang 'It wasn't down in Texas';'Love the one you're with';'the thrill has gone';'Tracks of my tears';'Heatwave'. He then got Elspeth Durkin up to sing harmony on 'Dixie Chicken' and 'Love hurts'. Then he sang'Don't listen to the ghosts again';'Hallelulia';'Seeds and stems';'HandJive';'Moondance';'Caledonia' and 'I love you more than ice cream'.
He then got Elspeth Durkin back up to sing 'Autumn Leaves' and 'After the Goldrush'.

Bob then contiunued with 'What in the world has come over you'; 'It ain't me babe' and then 'Frankenstein' before taking a short break. However he was soon back on stage again with 'It'll last another day' before getting Elspeth back up for harmonies on 'You keep me hanging on' and 'Willin'.

He then sang 'You're just as drunk as me'; 'Who knows where the time goes'; and 'Who do you love'. He then got Elspeth back up and they sang 'Different world'.

Bob then continued with 'Bringit on home to me' and then 'Fire and rain'

Andy Logan had arrived by this time and performed a few numbers [- which gave Bob a little rest!] 'Time slips away'; Good-hearted woman' and 'Crossroads'.
Bob then got back up and performed 'The mighty Quin';'Take another piece of my heart' [ with Elspeth Durkin and Geoff Allan on backing vocals];and then 'Summertime'. At this point someone volunteered their friend Karen Mitchell
to get up and sing -
so they did Summertime again.
Andy Logan got back up and sang 'Ramona' and then 'Games people play'. He was followed by Dennis who sang 'Careless love' and 'Sunshine day'

Then Bob got back up and performed 'Rolling Stone'; Goodnight Irene'; ' Last thing on my mind'; 'Mountain Thyme' and 'Help'.

Then Karen got back up and sang 'I've got you under my skin'. And then Bob finished off with 'One more for the road' and 'Substitute'.
Ammy Bell had arrived by this time to do her set from 9.40 to 10.15pm when she finished and then went through to Scotch Corner to do another set.
Gerry McHugh had performed in the sister bar,Scotch Corner [through the beer garden] at the same time, and was due to swap over to come to the Clutha Vaults. {Unfortunately a lot of the usual Open Mic performers did not arrive until nearly 10pm, as they had thought the Open Mic was at the regular time, so they missed the chance to perform in the Clutha as Amy was already on stage, however a lot of them went through to Scotch Corner}. Gerry McHugh came in at 11.30pm { after a short impromptu Open Mic session in Scotch Corner using his equipment} and did a set which covered the ringing in of the New Year 2008, and beyond!

THREE, TWO ,ONE..........

"A Guid New Year tae yin an ae, and many mae ye see"

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008

Gerry kept playing after 'the bells' after a short break, and the festivities continued even after the bar closed at 2.00 a.m.!
