10th December 2007

Bob’s Open Mic at The Clutha Vaults.

BOB LESLIE started off with a few songs while people arrived and had a few drinks, ‘Six days on the road’, ‘Caledonia’, ‘The Thrill has gone’, and ‘It’ll last another day’ his newest composition.
First up was ELSPETH DURKIN to sing a duet with Bob ‘Love hurts’ followed by ‘Autumn Leaves’.

Then Bob got JOHN McCORRIE up to play his drums

and they performed ‘Handjive’

Next up was WALDO who played two of his own songs - ‘St Cecilia’ and ‘Down by the waterside’
LYNN CARSON then got up on stage and performed three songs - ‘Only love can break your heart’ by Fleetwood Mac and then two of her own excellent compositions - ‘Westwind’ and ‘The Green room’

BOB then decided to carry on the own composition theme and sang ‘I love you more than Ice-cream’ from his cd “Songs from the Mine” recorded with his band THE OUTFIT.
A slight change of pace then followed with DENISE McLAUGHLAN getting up and reading some of her poetry to the assembled throng. Four poems entitled ‘Skint Mates’; ‘Nursing Love’; ‘pumpin the poems’; and ‘Scary Thought’, all of which were well received.

JOE McATAMANY followed with a Matt McGinn song ‘Coorie doon’.

ELSPETH and BOB were up next with a duet of one of Bob’s compositions ‘ Different World’. Bob then got JOHN and THE CHICKEN SUPREMES [ELSPETH & LYNN] back on stage and gave their first presentation of the Supremes hit ‘You keep me hanging on’ - which gave everyone a good boost - despite having to read the words off song sheets!

WALDO was back up then with ‘Take a walk with me’. Bob named him king of the codis as it is sometimes difficult to know when Waldo has actually stopped playing his songs!!!
Next up was KATE McGEE another excellent female performer who gave us a Bob Marley song ‘I don’t want to wait in vain’ followed by another Fleetwood Mac song ‘Thunder only happens when its raining’.


DENISE was then back with another couple of poems - ‘Bleeding Lust’ written after hearing Leona Lewis’s new song on the radio and ‘Wha Me’s’


a poem about two-faced people.
JOE MAC was back up then with two songs - ‘Ride On’ and ‘Haul away’.
He was followed by DUNCAN ADAMS



who asked JOHN if he could help out on drums, and he sang ‘Trust you with my heart’ and then ‘No More’.






LYNN was then back up with ‘The Wake’.

Final performance of the evening was Bob, John and the
"Chicken Supremes" - firstly with a Little Feat number ‘Dixie Chicken’ and then ‘GLORIA’.
Next week Bob is hoping to have a few more Seasonal songs, along with some Jingle Bells !!!

Bob's Open Mic Night - Monday 26th November 2007

Bob started the evening off with a rendition of ‘Caledonia’ followed by a song done by Leonard Cohen/Rufus Wainright/ Jeff Buckley/ and SHREK! - ‘Halleluiah’ and then one of his own ‘Adios to Rock & Roll’.
First up from the audience was Frank who gave us his own song ‘Strange People’ followed by ‘Ain’t that lonely yet’.
Andy Logan then got up with ‘St James Infirmary Blues’ and then ‘Time slips away’.
John McGarrigal then got up with a poem ‘Bigotry’ followed by ‘Humanitarian Bombing’.
Next was Joe MacAtamany with his unique style, singing ‘The Loch Tay boat song’ and then ‘Haul Away’.
Elspeth Durkin was next up, with Bob playing guitar giving us ‘Autumn Leaves’ and then ‘After the Goldrush’,
then Bob stayed up to sing a requested song of his -‘It’ll last another day’.
Then Lynn Carson got to the stage and gave us three of her own songs ‘It’s not me…’ , ‘September coming’ and ‘Follow you down’.
Denise McLaughlan foll0wed her with some poetry including ‘I need a p..’ ,’She’s no a wean…’ and ‘Whammies’.
Stevie Osbourne then went up with Bob and did the ‘Eastender Blues’.
Duncan Adams then performed ‘I don’t care if you love me anymore’ and then ‘Where am I gonna live when I get home’.
Frank then got back up with an instrumental leading into ‘Keep on Rocking in the free world’.
Andy Logan was then back up with ‘The games people play’ at which point DANCING broke out in the bar!! John McGarrigal then did another poem ‘That puppet theatre’ followed by ‘Non-judgemental, my arse!’ Stevie Osbourne then sang one of his own songs ‘Midnight’,
followed by Duncan singing ‘Please love me’!.
Denise was back up with an excellent poem all about assertiveness and confidence. Elspeth then got back up and did an accapella version of ‘The Quiet Joys of Brotherhood’.
Joe Mac then sang a song called ‘The Whaling game’ as a complaint against the Japanese fleet that set sail last week to go hunting Humpback whales again.
Lynn then got back up and sang another of her own songs [about leaving home] called ‘Westwind’. Bob then got back on stage with The Chicken Supremes [a.k.a. Elspeth, Lynn and guest , Alan] and they performed ‘Substitute’ and then ‘Gloria’ to finish off the evening.
Despite cries for more,

Bob had to pack up the equipment, so there was a short jam session on the ‘floor’, before the bar staff finally managed to ‘shoo’ everyone out of the bar at the end of a very enjoyable evening.

19th November 2007

Big Bob’s Open Mic at the Clutha Vaults

Bob started the evening off with one of his own songs - It’ll last another day’ followed by ‘Hallelullia’. First up was Brian singing the Beach Boys classic ‘Sloop John B’ and then a Dylan Classic ‘Blowin in the wind’ Brian only took up the guitar two years ago and is self taught.


Next up was Frank with and instrumental followed by a Neil Young song ‘Only Love’.

Bob then got back on stage with John McCorrie on drums and Elspeth Durkin on tambourine and harmony vocals to sing three songs - ‘Dixie Chicken’ and ‘Willin’ (two Little Feat numbers) and then a Sixties classic ‘the Hand Jive’.


Denise MacLaughlan then got up and read out three of her poems to the audience -including one called ’Scum’- all of which were well received.


The newcomer Lynn Carson got up and gave us a Bob Dylan song ‘Wallflower’ followed by one of her own ‘West Wind’.


Next up was Elspeth Durkin singing Bob’s favourite - ‘Autumn Leaves’
and then along with Bob on his song ‘Different World’.

Andy Logan then followed them with ‘Blue eyes cryin in the rain’ and then ‘Good Hearted Woman’.


Duncan Adams was next on stage and he performed ‘Tonight’ and then ‘Where am I gonna live….?’


Bob then got back on stage with John McCorrie on the drums to sing a special request - ‘The thrill has gone’.


Then Brian got back up and sang the Johnny Cash song ‘Fulsom Prison Blues’


and then Frank sang one called ‘Sandra’ [ although many in the audience thought he was singing Santa!!]


Then Lynn got back up and did the Neil Young song ‘Only Love’ [as she had not been in when Frank had sung it earlier].

Joe Macatamy then got on stage and sang ‘Northern Water’ and then ‘Gallipoli’


and was followed by Denise with another three short poems - including one about housework, and on about ‘being at the chippy and diets’ Andy Logan then performed ‘The Games People Play’ along with some audience participation



penultimate was Duncan with ‘The one I love’

and finally Bob finished the evening off ,with help from John McCorrie on drums, and backing singers ‘The Chicken Supremes’ (consisting this evening of Elspeth and Lynn),


singing a Dusty Springfield number and then finishing off with the Hand Jive!!

The whole evening finished off with a little Jam Session whilst the equipment was being put away.
