Big Bob’s Open Mic at the Clutha Vaults
Denise MacLaughlan then got up and read out three of her poems to the audience -including one called ’Scum’- all of which were well received.
Bob started the evening off with one of his own songs - It’ll last another day’ followed by ‘Hallelullia’. First up was Brian singing the Beach Boys classic ‘Sloop John B’ and then a Dylan Classic ‘Blowin in the wind’ Brian only took up the guitar two years ago and is self taught.
Bob then got back on stage with John McCorrie on drums and Elspeth Durkin on tambourine and harmony vocals to sing three songs - ‘Dixie Chicken’ and ‘Willin’ (two Little Feat numbers) and then a Sixties classic ‘the Hand Jive’.
Denise MacLaughlan then got up and read out three of her poems to the audience -including one called ’Scum’- all of which were well received.
The newcomer Lynn Carson got up and gave us a Bob Dylan song ‘Wallflower’ followed by one of her own ‘West Wind’.
and then along with Bob on his song ‘Different World’.
Andy Logan then followed them with ‘Blue eyes cryin in the rain’ and then ‘Good Hearted Woman’.
Duncan Adams was next on stage and he performed ‘Tonight’ and then ‘Where am I gonna live….?’
Bob then got back on stage with John McCorrie on the drums to sing a special request - ‘The thrill has gone’.
Then Brian got back up and sang the Johnny Cash song ‘Fulsom Prison Blues’
and then Frank sang one called ‘Sandra’ [ although many in the audience thought he was singing Santa!!]
Then Lynn got back up and did the Neil Young song ‘Only Love’ [as she had not been in when Frank had sung it earlier].
Joe Macatamy then got on stage and sang ‘Northern Water’ and then ‘Gallipoli’
and was followed by Denise with another three short poems - including one about housework, and on about ‘being at the chippy and diets’ Andy Logan then performed ‘The Games People Play’ along with some audience participation
and finally Bob finished the evening off ,with help from John McCorrie on drums, and backing singers ‘The Chicken Supremes’ (consisting this evening of Elspeth and Lynn),
singing a Dusty Springfield number and then finishing off with the Hand Jive!!
The whole evening finished off with a little Jam Session whilst the equipment was being put away.
